Volunteer

Volunteer for the State band Competition and Waukee Marching Invitational! This is Waukee's time to shine and we need everyones help to pull it off! If possible, we would like for each marcher family to sign up for at least 1 shift. If you take 2, that is even better! Below is the description of all of the volunteer positions.

Check back September 1st!

Ways You Can Help

The following will provide some more information on volunteer opportunities before, during, and after the events.  Please note that the following descriptions do not entail all details of each volunteer position, but it should give you a general idea of what is expected.  More detailed information is provided as the events get closer so volunteers know where and when to arrive for their shift(s), as well as any additional information that may need to be provided specific to the shift(s) you sign up for.

Volunteer Opportunities Before the Events

Assembling Judge Packets – State Marching Contest relies heavily on paper documentation.  Numerous judge/scoring packets need to be created for each band performing.

WMI Event Program Designer – WMI has a detailed event program that incorporates information about each participating band and lists all senior members.  The program designer will coordinate with Waukee Band Directors and the WMI committee chair(s) on the content of the program.  Program design usually begins in early September.

Trophy Pickup – Trophies and Awards are given out at WMI.  This means lots of boxes to pick up a few days before the event.

Trailer Pickup, Tractor & Golf Car Delivery – The day before the event is when the tractors and golf cars we use for the event are delivered to the stadium.  We need assistance in getting them stored underneath the stadium bleachers and hitches placed on the tractors.  We also need to pick up several trailers in the DSM Metro Area this day.  If you have a trailer 10-12 feet in length with a ramp gate that we can use for the events please let your BPO President know ASAP so we can plan accordingly.

Volunteer Opportunities During the Events

Tickets - located in the ticket window building or at the gate. Selling tickets and/or taking tickets for the shows. You will only be selling tickets for the show that is going on during your shift. Ticket takers will be taking tickets at the gate and putting them into the ticket boxes.

Wristbands for Participants - located in the bus parking area. Every band member and their crew have to wear a specific wristband to enter the stadium. Volunteers enter the buses and make sure everyone gets a wristband. Please do not just hand groups wristbands to distribute.  Friends and family of participating bands will need to buy tickets. Only those with the participating band are given wristbands.

Bus/Equipment Vehicle Parking Coordinators- help plan, organize, and direct incoming school buses and school equipment trucks/trailers so vehicles can be staged while allowing for traffic flow as groups arrive and leave.

Concessions - located in the concession stand. After signing in at the volunteer center, walk back out the main gates and to the rear of the concession stand, the entrance is there. Assignments will be made on needs for sale of food items.

Volunteer Check-in – assist the BPO volunteer coordinators with checking in volunteers for shifts and direct them where to go to for their shift. Report issues to event chair(s) as needed.
