We will be removing your outfits to clean and putting your band uniform in the bag. You will need to have regular band shoes to wear for concert band. I would also suggest that any band member take home their gloves and keep them there until next year. When we clean the uniforms, some things get misplaced or moved. This way you would be guaranteed to start the season next year with gloves. At the end of the year after Memorial Day, we will also suggest you take home your shoes to make sure you have everything you need as things can be misplaced when the uniforms are cleaned. Ideally, we'd have 3-4 adults available to help for each event. Jazz Events - Below is the schedule of events for the Jazz season. WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY NOW HAS A MARCHING BAND PROGRAM! > ? Oskaloosa, IA > > While every student eventually approaches high school graduation and > begins making plans for further education, they consider colleges > and universities for their desired degrees of interest, and they > consider some of the activities to be involved in. For those who > would like to continue music as an interest or for their choice of > studies, we offer many choices, including Vocal ensembles, Concert > band, Jazz ensemble, Marching band and Pep band. As all of the > major State Universities have marching band programs, very few of > the private universities and community colleges offer this > opportunity. > > As parents, a common concern is the cost of college, so to inform > you we are giving scholarships for participation in these programs, > which can greatly reduce the costs of tuition. In fact, many > students who qualify for the Pell grants and Iowa Tuition grants, > and participate in one or more of these music ensembles pay very > little for tuition. We can compete very well with the costs of > college against most of the colleges and universities in the > state. Students do not need to be music majors! > > Last spring I was hired as the Director of Athletic Bands, to form a > marching band and pep band program. My area of expertise is in > Marching Percussion and with experience as a member with the > Cavaliers and Santa Clara Vanguard drum and bugle corps, and as a > Caption Head for the Colts, Blue Stars and University of Nebraska, > Lincoln Cornhusker Band. > Next fall we are adding additional staff in the areas of Horn line > instruction, M&M, and color guard - all with corps experience and > influence. > We do have current faculty specializing in instrumental music, > keyboards and vocal. > > Here is what has happened in the last 10 months and what is to come. > > * This year we performed as pep bands for the home Football games w/ > drum line, Volleyball matches and Basketball games. We have also > begun a winter drum line program, performing in Feb. > * Next fall we will be fielding a marching band with a goal for our > first year of 60 - 80+ members with guard. Our future goal is to > grow to a consistent 150 members the following year. > * We have purchased a full line of Jupiter marching brass, > saxophones and piccolos. > * We have purchased a full line of Pearl marching percussion, Adams > Pit percussion and Zildjian Cymbals. > * We will be a corps style program, performing a pre-game show, and > one to two show packages per year. Unlike the major State > Universities who perform a different show at every home game. Thus > this will help with a less stress time commitment, and the ability > to strive for a higher level of performance and a better learning > experience. Drum line and Color guard will rehearse one > additional evening per week. > * Next year we will start a Winter Guard Program > * Goals for the Winter Guard and Drum line programs are to enter > into competitions. > * As numbers grow, we will continue adding additional needed > equipment to fill out the program. > * We are giving Scholarships for the Athletic Bands program - > regardless of what major you may pursue. This scholarship is > generous, and only commits to the activities of Marching band, Pep > bands, and those in the winter guard and winter drum lines. > * We have an indoor football turf facility, which we are > coordinating schedule for our use as needed. > * The announcement was recently made for a new stadium to be > completed by fall 2010. > * We are getting world wide exposure about our program with a > recent article in the Drum Corps International Magazine just > released in their Winter issue. > * I was recently informed that if we reach a membership of 60 ? 80 > next fall, we will get TV coverage on our rapid growth and success. > * We are coordinating efforts with the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps to > hold camps here at William Penn. > * As we grow and have more physical data on our members, we will > purchase new uniforms for the program. This could be as early as > the coming season. Stanbury is our choice. > * This year we will be hosting our second annual marching band camp > with Youth In Music, specializing in the areas of M&M, Drum Majors, > Color guard, Drum line and Pit. All clinicians have drum corps > experience. > * College bands do not compete as high school programs do, though > as we achieve growth and quality, I do intend to schedule more > performances with our group to play exhibitions at some of the Iowa > band competitions. > > As I began promoting this program, I have attempted to contact and > send information to every band director and program in the state, > and nearly 40 drum corps throughout the US.
