Marching Band season has arrived. The Waukee Warrior Regiment members
were busy during the June rehearsals learning the music, with band camp
learning the drill and putting the music with it and now with 7:00 am
rehearsals to prepare the show for this year.
This Friday night, September 7, will be the first public performance for
the 2006 Warrior Regiment at the home football game.
You may ask "What is a Roadie and what does a Roadie do?"
A Roadie is anyone that is a part of the support crew that assists in
getting the Waukee Warrior Regiment to and from a show, which includes
home football games, parades, contests and anything else that requires
the band to look and sound their best. As a Roadie you may be involved
in packing and unpacking equipment, loading and unloading uniforms and
equipment, assisting in getting the regiment members in uniforms or
checking uniforms after a performance and/or any number of other tasks
that are required to get the Waukee Warrior Regiment ready for a
performance. As the band grows so does the amount of equipment needed,
so please consider helping get the Regiment ready for the performance,
getting the show on and off the field and getting everything put away
after the performance.
No prior experience is required to be a Roadie, just a willingness to
assist the students to allow them to do their best.
However if you want to be a Roadie there are a few things that we ask:
1. When you, students or parents or alumni, are on the road with the
Regiment, you ARE representing Waukee, the same as any member of the
Regiment. We must all represent the Waukee Warrior Regiment with pride.
2. Dress accordingly. Wear your Waukee apparel.
3. For the Roadies that move the percussion "Pit" equipment, on and off
of the field for performances, to the area that is in front of the band,
known as the Pit, dress attire is as follows:
- an all black shirt, or t-shirt or sweatshirt. Many wear the Waukee
black polo or crewneck sweatshirt, purchased from Warrior World,
but it is not required.
- blue jeans
- Depending on the weather conditions the dress attire will change.
When it gets cold we do wear coats to stay warm.
You are all welcome! I invite you to come and be a part of the Roadie
crew. We will find a job for you with uniforms or loading or fixing or
painting or what ever else needs to be done. We can use your help in
numerous areas throughout the year.
The schedule for this Friday night is as follows:
Thursday night, Sept 6, 6:00 PM - assistance is needed to load the
truck for a special Friday morning rehearsal to be held at the
football
field with all the Pit equipment. We can use help loading
equipment.
Then stay for the Band Parent's meeting at 7:00 PM
Friday, September 7, 6:45 AM at the football field
Any one that can help is urged to meet over at the field at 6:45 AM
to help
get equipment on the field and then back on the truck after
rehearsal.
5:45 PM Regiment members report to begin getting in uniforms.
Students, remember
to bring your BLACK SOCKS & Black band shoes if you took them home!
Uniform Moms are also needed at this time. We will be busy with
gloves, shoes & hats for our first performance. Also we put plumes
on the hats. It always takes longer the first performance, so extra
help will be needed.
6:00 PM Equipment Roadies Report -- Last minute loading of anything
needing to go to the field
6:30 PM Regiment is to be ready and outside for warm up
7:00 PM Regiment troops over to the football field. Parents are
invited to make a tunnel as the band crosses Ashworth and cheer them
on! (This also stops the traffic to get the Regiment across the
street.)
Friday night Performance:
Pre-game Show with the 7th - 12th Grade band members
Halftime, Waukee Warrior Regiment 2006 marching show
Helpers are needed after Pre-game and again before and after half time
to assist with plumes. Equipment people are needed to unload the truck
at the football field, and then to roll the equipment into the pit area
as the band takes the field for the halftime show. (This is good
practice as we prepare for contests.)
After the halftime show, equipment roadies load the truck, then head
back to the band room to unload. Uniform roadies go to the school and
assist with getting uniforms checked in.
Let me know if you have any questions regarding any of the above.
Thanks,
Kurt Sundermann
