Thank you to all who participated in getting the Warrior Regiment ready for
the first appearance of the school year at the football game whether it was
in the areas of uniform help, Pit help and/or loading/unloading of the
truck.
Well guess what - it is time to do it again for a football game this Friday
night September 15th and then we take the show on the road with our first
contest appearance of the year as we travel to Johnston this Saturday,
September 16th. The same activities take place on the road as with a
football game, except we get to load 2 trucks instead of one, because the
students will change into their uniforms at Johnston. We need as much help
for contests as we have for football games as we are under a time limit at
the contests.
We will also need at least 2 parents to ride on each the busses (and we
travel with 5 busses), so if you are planning on going please plan on riding
on one of the busses.
Remember the fund raiser "Wake with the Band"? The drawing to determine who
gets to have the entire Regiment show up in their front yard is this Friday
night, and the Regiment will show up at the lucky winners house at 9:00 am
Saturday. We will lease for the Johnston contest after the Wake with the
Band performance. If you have not placed your entry into the drawing yet
you have up to the end of half-time of the football game Friday night to do
so.
Friday Night - is Picture Night. Regiment members need to be in full
uniform and ready for pictures at 5:30 pm. Individual and sectional
pictures will be taken prior to the entire group picture.
6:00 PM Equipment Roadies Report -- loading of equipment to go to the
football field
6:30 PM Regiment is to be ready and outside for warm up
7:00 PM Regiment troops over to the football field. Parents are invited
to make a tunnel
as the band crosses Ashworth and cheer them on! (This also stops
the traffic to
get the Regiment across the street.)
Friday night Performance:
Pre-game Show this week will feature the Kids Color Guard
Halftime, Waukee Warrior Regiment 2006 marching show "Jekyll and Hyde"
Helpers are needed after Pre-game and again before and after half time to
assist with plumes. Equipment people are needed to unload the truck at the
football field, and then to roll the equipment into the pit area as the band
takes the field for the halftime show. (This is good practice as we prepare
for contests.)
After the halftime show, equipment roadies load the truck, then head back to
the band room to unload. Uniform roadies go to the school and assist with
getting uniforms checked in.
The itinerary for "Wake with the Band" and the Johnston Contest on Saturday,
September 16th as posted on the Band Web site is as follows:
7:40 am Roadies Report to load equipment trucks, uniforms will need to
be loaded and then
we can finish the equipment loading.
8:00 Regiment Report
8:20 Depart for "Wake with the Band" location
9:00 Wake with the Band performance
9:30 Load buses and head for Johnston. There will be a quick food
stop on the way.
You may bring your own lunch if you want to.
11:15 Dressed and ready for the Johnston and prepare for performance
12:00 pm (Noon) Performance and clinic
2:15 pm Arrive back at Waukee
Remember that this weekend is also the Waukee Fall Festival and the Fall
Festival Parade is Sunday, September 17th. The 9 - 12 band and the 8th
grade band are both marching in the parade. The Band Parents will again
have an entry in the parade (the Warrior World trailer) and you are welcome
to walk beside the float and bring candy to throw.
The itinerary for the 9 - 12 grade Regiment members for the Fall Festival
Parade on September 17th is as follows:
11:30 am Load large instruments and percussion on truck at the High
School
12:00 noon Assemble at Middle School parking lot
1:00 pm Fall Festival Parade
2:00 estimated completion of the Parade ending at or around the
Methodist Church
Reminder for Roadies:
Roadies that move the percussion "Pit" equipment, on and off of the field
for performances dress attire is as follows:
- an all black shirt, or t-shirt or sweatshirt. Many wear the Waukee
black polo or crewneck sweatshirt, purchased from Warrior World,
but it is not required.
- blue jeans
- Depending on the weather conditions the dress attire will change.
When it gets cold we do wear coats to stay warm.
To all that travel with the Regiment we need a Medical form filled out for
you, just like we ask to have one filled out for your student. I am
attaching a medical form to this email that you can print and complete and
bring with you Saturday.
Let me know if you have any questions regarding any of the above.
Thanks,
Doug Meyer
