Re: Maple Grove Elementary Band Solo Night, Monday, May 5th, 2008

Dear Band Parents,

Soon every band student will be working on a solo for his or her
instrument. To showcase all the hard work that students have put
into their solos, we host a special evening called the "Maple Grove
Elementary Band Solo Night". We will have judges for the evening to
listen and provide helpful feedback for your student. Our goal is to
make this a very positive "first-time solo" experience for your child.

The fifth graders will be scheduled to perform in five-minute slots
starting right after school on Monday, May 5th. Here's everything
you need to know:

1. On the next page is the schedule for our Maple Grove Elementary
Band Solo Night on May 5th. I ask that everyone try to stick with
the schedule. However, if your student is really unable to perform at
that time, please let Mr. Graziano know immediately and we'll try to
make arrangements to switch with someone else. Parents, please plan
to watch your child's performance. Remember you only need to stay
for his or her individual five-minute time slot.

2. This event takes place at Maple Grove Elementary. We will have
students perform in two rooms labeled Purple Room and Gold Room (Most
likely this will be the music room or the band room. I'll have
everything secured as we get closer to the date). As always, please
enter through the main entrance at Maple Grove Elementary near the
main office.

3. Students should try to dress nicely for their solo performance.

4. It is important to be on time. We will follow the schedule
exactly as shown. Students should arrive 10 to 15 minutes early so
they will have time to assemble their instrument and play some warm-
up exercises before entering the performance room.

5. Do you play the piano? I am looking for parents who would like
to help provide piano accompaniment for the student solos. If you
can help, please contact Mr. Graziano as soon as possible. I can
give you the music ahead of time if you need to practice! :)

I'm looking forward to a wonderful evening! If you have questions,
please contact me at school: 987-3363 ext. 6146 or e-mail:
rgraziano at waukee.k12.ia.us Thanks! :)
